Englands leading goal scorer
So Harry Kane is now the leading goal scorer for England, but take away the 18 penalty’s that will put him back down the list. I know you still have to score a penalty but should only goals in open play count which would prove who is the better striker.

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
Remember he's only 29 so by the time he is finished he will proably have the record without pens anyway, not that others didn't score pens 'coz they did. Also has the best average aside from Jimmy Greaves.

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
Kane (54) has just over taken Rooney (53) and his total included just 7 penalties Kane has 18 penalties big difference.

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
Okay, so Rooney is on 46 Kane 36, like I say Kane wlll comfortably score 11 more from open play and he has a better average then Rooney, most likely including pens too. But I'm assuming you give the same amount of fucks as I do.

if only he could put away penalties when they really count eh?

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
manuel, I'm not looking for a row but how can you call a player world class that hasn't won anything? even shearer (who I rate as a better striker than rooney or kane) won a trophy. harry's clearly a good lad, but he's been fortunate to play in a system where he's been the lone striker and has had very little competition for starts or chances

Manuel 11:24 Fri Mar 24
Re: Englands leading goal scorer
miike - because his all round game is at a world class level not to mention his goal ratio year upon year in a side that isn't that great. It's not even a debate for me, regardless if he has won anything or not.

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
I’d imagine a chunk of most of the top scorers goals are penalties.
people may not like the bloke (and I’m not too keen unless he’s representing the country) but he’s got a fantastic goalscoring record domestically and internationally which can’t be denied, despite many seemingly trying to- presumably because he plays for a cunt club.

By a country mile he’s the best English striker around now and for most of the last decade. Says more about our lack of depth rather than about him because as mentioned his goals per game is better by a distance than Lineker, Rooney, Charlton and Owen and those are some heavyweight names who I’m sure took a few pens as well. And let’s be honest if he didn’t far more often than not score them, he wouldn’t be the taker.

However he nor anyone else is going to get close to Greaves’ record. Absolutely phenomenal and out on his own likely forever unless we uncover an English Haaland who happens to come along at a time when we have a terrific squad.

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
He’s never scored goals in open play in the top international tournaments. I mentioned it on the other thread. It’s his big failing that devalues the fact he has scored so many. 18 pens too. But he just hasn’t turned up at euros and WCs. Anonymous in fact.

Shame as his club form is exceptional and also internationally in qualifiers.

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
You read some of the stuff on here about a player and I can't believe what people think when I read it!

He maybe a yid, but I wish we had a striker that played for us in the last 30 years that was half as good as him. Deano could have been potentially...

Yid or not he is a model professional and a great striker.

I don't get the is his dick bigger than another strikers dick comparison's.

Different dogs on different days..

No one on here doubts how good he is just how great he is as he’s never contributed to actually winning anything…..

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
Would this conversation be taking place if he played for any other club?

You dont score the amount of (career) goals he has without being any good. Cant imagine how his record would look had he been part of a more sucsessful club throughout his career, probably would have smashed Shearers prem record by now.

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
I don't care who he plays for, and I don't think he's even the best striker/forward at spurs. I rate son as a better player

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
Ha has not turned up at WCs. Well how come he won the golden boot in Russia 2018 without being there?

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
This is it…..the greats in todays game make selfish and great decisions for themselves to get where they want and become considered World Class those that don’t are what if’s….footballers are judged on what they’ve achieved….Kane is fucking great at what he does but he’s barely put himself in the frame for being the difference to actual win and achieve on the pitch success….

zico 11:57 Fri Mar 24
Re: Englands leading goal scorer
You can't deny he deserves to be up there because didn't Lineker and Shearer take the penalties as well? He has a pretty decent goals to games ratio as well. 54 in 81 where Rooney was 53 in 120 although others have better goals to games ratios.

Manuel 12:00 Fri Mar 24
Re: Englands leading goal scorer
Side - I do take your point about the real greats being the difference in big games, that's another level and it's true hasn't done that. I rate Kane as a world class operator based on his all round game and goals record over a long period, but he's not at the level of the Ronaldo's, Messi, Benzema, they are phenomenams, but I still believe you can be world class in your position without being that good.

, 12:03 Fri Mar 24
Re: Englands leading goal scorer
Kane has scored 12 goals in 22 WC or Euro finals tournaments which is not a bad strike rate.

And just six of his England goals have been scored in friendliest.

El Scorchio 12:13 Fri Mar 24
Re: Englands leading goal scorer
I’d argue his loyalty to his club (and his chairman being a two faced arsehole) are the reasons he’s not won anything domestically, and you have to call the first of those admirable and somewhat selfless if not misguided. He knows he’s lost out on the chance of inevitable multiple domestic trophies by staying with them because the likes of Man U, Man City, Chelsea have all wanted him in the past IIRC.

If he left there tomorrow he’d have his pick of any English side apart from Man City and arguably almost any club in the world aside from a handful.

As for internationally, no player aside from those in 1966 has won a thing so that’s not really a stick that can be used to beat him with.

Will I pretend he’s one of the best strikers who has ever lived? Absolutely not, but he’s a bloody good one and one of the best and most consistent in world football over the last decade whether we like it or not. And he’s not playing for the dominant team in a piss easy league like some of his contemporaries who rack up the goals year in year out as well.

Re: Englands leading goal scorer
Yup i'd go along with that... and lets be honest he is not even the Haaland type of kill your gran for a goal type of centre forward... his all round play is outstanding... more of a modern day Ted Sherringham ... so when you stick his assists, along with his hold up and link play... ontop of his goals he's scored (for not one of the top club sides) then no doubting he is a hell of a player...
